About

I hope for this to be an interesting site about wearing and buying men’s clothes on a budget. Classic style for the most part. With lots of photos and ideas and preferences. Oh, and opinions.

In my earlier years i was fairly clothes conscious but between travelling and kids and moving to a new continent  rather lost the habit. Then about 6 or 7 years ago (Downton Abbey and Mad Men must take some of the credit) I decided it was time to start dressing like a grown up. But of course I didn’t know where to shop and with two kids heading for university didn’t have the spare cash to spend anyway.

Perhaps the most difficult thing to begin with was knowing what a man my age (late 50s) should be wearing – the last time I cared I was in my twenties; blogs like GreyFox and Pinterest searches were crucial.

Then where to find clothes i liked? Menswear stores often aim for a younger demographic and the quality and range hereabouts just isn’t always there; shopping online became a necessity. Like Gatsby i started having my shirts sent from England (i.e. buying online at www.tmlewin.co.uk) and have been very pleased with them all. But ebay was my big breakthrough….. started cautiously keeping a $50 upper limit so if something didn’t fit or wasn’t as described it was no great loss*. But once i was confident in my sizes i have found the variety and quality on offer to be better than i could ever find locally – at any price. At my age i’m going to be wearing “classic” styles and will always look at least a little unfashionable so buying second-hand or returned stock at these prices suits me just fine.

I’ll try and stay anonymous to begin with as i want this to be more about the clothes than about me.

There are of course several other blogs along these lines and i enjoy them all …..

*That said most sellers will refund if something is wrong so you’re only on the hook for the shipping.
